StripeCon 2016 Ljubljana, the City of heroes

The historical and picturesque medieval capital of Slovenia lies on the banks of the Ljubljanica River, beneath the Ljubljana Castle Hill.

Its mythical beginnings date back to around 1300 BC to the legend of Jason and the Argonauts, whose voyage across Europe to retrieve the Golden Fleece also led them to Slovenia. In Ljubljana’s marshes Jason defeated a powerful dragon, which would later become the city’s symbol.

In ancient Rome, around 50 BC, Ljubljana first served as an important military encampment under the name of Emona.

During the Middle Ages the city held great trade importance and was known as Laibach under the rule of the Habsburg Dynasty. It was in the 12th century that the Ljubljana Castle was built.

During Napoleon’s conquests, Ljubljana again rose to its fame as the capital of the Illyrian provinces of France from 1809 to 1813.

In the early 20th century, Ljubljana truly earned its place in European history as under Nazi occupation, it became the capital of the Partisan resistance.

In 2016, we also joined the SilverStripe Partner programme in order to established better contact with developers and become more involved in the creation of Silverstripe.

As a part of the SilverStripe theme competition in 2012, our developer Sara also developed our own Simple theme, which was then donated for public use.
